If you were lamenting the lack of historic Mustang trim levels, rest assured that your prayers have been answered. For 2021, the Mach 1 trim level is returning to Fords iconic ponycar.
The new Mach 1 will build on the current, sixth-generation Mustang platform and is poised to slot between the GT and Shelby models. We’ve spent a lot of time behind the wheel of the current Mustang, and it is a serious road and track machine. Based on Ford’s camo teaser photos, it looks like the rear valance and wing are lifted straight from the GT350 and the large Brembo brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 will ensure some serious laptimes.
1969 was the debut for the Mach 1 as a trim package for the Mustang GT, which set itself apart from the Boss and Shelby variants by being the epitome of Mustang GT. The Mach 1 evolved in 1971 and 1974 before returning in the early 2000s. This new car is going to continue that tradition.
Update: It’s here! Check out the production Mach 1 below.
Until we get some seat time, why not read our most recent reviews of the sublime GT350 and excellent GT PP2 linked below.
More information will be available in June. Until then, enjoy some of these delightfully retro press photos courtesy of Ford’s PR department..
My dealer can not find an order code for the handling package. Does anybody know how to order that
